Distributed Testing of Excluded Subgraphs

چکیده
We study property testing in the context of distributed computing, under the classical CONGEST model. It is known that testing whether a graph is triangle-free can be done in a constant number of rounds, where the constant depends on how far the input graph is from being triangle-free. We show that, for every connected 4-node graph H , testing whether a graph is H-free can be done in a constant number of rounds too. The constant also depends on how far the input graph is from being H-free, and the dependence is identical to the one in the case of testing triangles. Hence, in particular, testing whether a graph is K4-free, and testing whether a graph is C4-free can be done in a constant number of rounds (where Kk denotes the k-node clique, and Ck denotes the k-node cycle). On the other hand, we show that testingKk-freeness and Ck-freeness for k ≥ 5 appear to be much harder. Specifically, we investigate two natural types of generic algorithms for testing H-freeness, called DFS tester and BFS tester. The latter captures the previously known algorithm to test the presence of triangles, while the former captures our generic algorithm to test the presence of a 4-node graph pattern H . We prove that both DFS and BFS testers fail to test Kk-freeness and Ck-freeness in a constant number of rounds for k ≥ 5.

Connected Balanced Subgraphs in Random Regular Multigraphs Under the Configuration Model∗
Our previous paper [9] applied a lopsided version of the Lovász Local Lemma that allows negative dependency graphs [5] to the space of random matchings in K2n, deriving new proofs to a number of results on the enumeration of regular graphs with excluded cycles through the configuration model [3]. Here we extend this from excluded cycles to some excluded balanced subgraphs, and derive asymptotic...
متن کاملDistributed Black-Box Software Testing Using Negative Selection
In the software development process, testing is one of the most human intensive steps. Many researchers try to automate test case generation to reduce the manual labor of this step. Negative selection is a famous algorithm in the field of Artificial Immune System (AIS) and many different applications has been developed using its idea. In this paper we have designed a new algorithm based on nega...
متن کاملArabesque: A System for Distributed Graph Mining - Extended version
Distributed data processing platforms such as MapReduce and Pregel have substantially simplified the design and deployment of certain classes of distributed graph analytics algorithms. However, these platforms do not represent a good match for distributed graph mining problems, as for example finding frequent subgraphs in a graph. Given an input graph, these problems require exploring a very la...
متن کاملDistributed Representation of Subgraphs
Network embeddings have become very popular in learning effective feature representations of networks. Motivated by the recent successes of embeddings in natural language processing, researchers have tried to nd network embeddings in order to exploit machine learning algorithms for mining tasks like node classication and edge prediction. However, most of the work focuses on nding distributed...
متن کاملSignificant Subgraph Mining with Multiple Testing Correction
We present a method for finding all subgraphs whose occurrence is significantly enriched in a particular class of graphs while correcting for multiple testing. Although detecting such significant subgraphs is a crucial step for further analysis across application domains, multiple testing of subgraphs has not been investigated before as it is not only computationally expensive, but also leads t...
